INFORMATION

GENERAL

The MELLEN TV series furnace operates at temperatures up to 1600ºC in an inert atmosphere or vacuum and 1450ºC in air.

Until now, clamshell furnaces were limited to a 16-inch inner diameter and were never truly round; large diameters were split into halves, quarters, or smaller, giving a scalloped bore rather than truly round. Extruded tubes tend to deform at larger diameters, and other tube furnaces were often placed in such a way that the tube would sag. To change all that, MELLEN has created a truly round bore with the TV Tube Furnace. The round bore can be made as small as 2-inch inner diameter and larger than 36-inch inner diameter.

The beauty of the Vulcan line is that it breaks the boundary of what a standard furnace is. With the Vulcan line, any size furnace is a standard furnace. The heating elements in no way limit the size or shape of the furnace. If there are dimensions that you require, Mellen can make them, be it round, rectangular, star shaped, or any shape!

There are seven classifications of MELLEN Vulcan Tube furnaces (TV): temperatures up to 1100ºC (TV11), 1200ºC (TV12), 1250ºC (TV12.5), 1300ºC (TV13REH), 1325ºC (TV13.25REH2), 1450ºC (TV14.5P) in air, or 1600ºC (TV16) in inert atmosphere or vacuum.

HEATING ELEMENTS

The furnace utilizes MELLEN Vulcan heating elements capable of up to 1600ºC in an inert atmosphere or vacuum and 1450ºC in air. The heating elements are supported over the entire length of the furnace to eliminate sag and remove length and inner diameter restrictions.

Multiple wire types are used to ensure rapid and efficient heat control of the system at any temperature. Chromel heating elements are capable of 1100ºC, FeCrAl elements can achieve 1200ºC, APM heating elements are capable of 1250ºC, and platinum wire can be used for temperatures up to 1450ºC in air. Molybdenum wire may be used to achieve 1600ºC when operating in vacuum or inert atmosphere.

Power requirements can vary based on temperature, diameter, and heated length of the furnace. Estimated power requirements will be provided during the quoting process.
