Clamshell Elements

Mellen clamshell heating elements are used in our split furnaces.  The clamshell elements use the heaviest gauge wire consistent with voltage requirements.

Power leads are doubled where they pass through insulation in the MELLEN furnaces.  Many temperatures are predicated on a heat-up rate of one to two hours when 3-4 inches of quality insulation is utilized.

Two clamshell elements are required to complete an element.  Clamshell elements range in size from:

  • .75" to 20" ID in any length

For 11000C and 12000C elements Mellen strives to provide :

  • the lowest possible watt density

  • longer heating element life

  • sturdy, ceramic sheath

  • helically coiled nickel chrome wire

  • Lead length (single) 12 inches

  • optional cemented 10000C element

In addition, our 12000C elements offer:

  • helically coiled chromium aluminum wire

  • optional white purity cement

Our 13000C elements:

  • use Kanthol APM wire

  • no cement

*Please consult MELLEN if an atmosphere other than air is to be used.
